Cag…despite all the claims otherwise a correction will come, how violent is the Q & will it help the metals?? Who knows, my 401k is up, finally where it was 10 years ago, but unless you sell it’s like the deposit box full of Eagles,…an unliquidated asset…. everyone who was scared is going back intpo the Mkt per news…..that is like BITCOIN, when it is touted ad nauseum, time for a correction or unbrideled excessive exhumberance…..never was a gud speller

  3. cagcrisp says

@John Q. Coinage, “despite all the claims otherwise a correction will come, how violent is the Q & will it help the metals ”

The Weaker Dollar Has to help the metals. The Q (as you say) is how bad will the metals get hit When the USD rebounds.

” everyone who was scared is going back intpo the Mkt per news…..”

When the Retail investor get’s in, it Usually is at the wrong time. Actually, there were More Outflows of the US Stock Market in December than there was Inflows…

Look like the mint is leaving the charge for war 1 coins on card mine show up today.not penning

  5. Sherril says

DO you think they will ever release the number of orders for the WW1 sets?????Still haven’t cancelled but planning too.My credit card still says pending?

  6. Daveinswfl says

If they are smart, they will keep charges pending until shipping is complete. Otherwise, there will be lots of lost sales from credit cards which are no longer valid or beyond credit limit

  7. KEITHSTER says

Charges are off am sure they can only hold them for a few days. It’s been one of the mints ways to mess with the orders for sometime now! Have a big release right before a non-orderable item is ready to ship and walla ? The mintage goes down with a few left overs to give as gifts? Well Good Luck All”>”>”>”>”>

  8. Daveinswfl says

Visa max cc hold = 30 days.
Thus, the sales window will make this issue yet another Mintnightmare!

  9. Wdg5khp says

Holy cow! Am I reading this correctly? $1720 for Platinum proof when spot value is under $1010? $ $710 premium? Thats 71% premium!!!!!!

  10. cagcrisp says

@Wdg5khp “Am I reading this correctly?”

Nope. You are not reading this correctly. The Above price is a range for $1,300-$1,349.99 not $1,000-$1,049.99.

IF Platinum was between $1,000-$1,049.99 then the Mint pricing would be $1,420.00…

Done with the US Mint useless they come out with something I can’t live without and that hasn’t happened in quite awhile.

  12. Tom says

    @ longarm.
I wonder if Rick Tomaska has spotted the Franklin Halves in it. The Cameo King, I believe , would shudder at the sight of his beloved Franklin’s entombed that way. I am going to forward the link to him.

How sadd ! Imagine being so close to seeing Coins go down the Toilet.

    Too depressing. 😷

  14. Daveinswfl says

Those who believe that the U.S.Mint has premiums too high on silver, I would recommend that EVERY time you enter a bank you ask your teller if ANY of the tellers have half dollars. Last Friday while cashing my paycheck I asked and the teller next to mine said she had some. I always take them all, so I got 40 halves of which 22 were near mint state 1964 Kennedys, 17were 1965-69 40% , and one was clad.
    Can’t beat silver at face!
Gotta be patient, though. Ten years ago most rolls had silver in them. Nowadays, not so much. But the search is cheap and when you get lucky, it’s a great day 🤑

  15. earthling says

Hey congratulations! Nice one. I picked up a cent off the floor the other day , it was a 57-D Wheatie with some Mint Red in the devices. I guess small hoards are coming in these days ….. people don’t know much about Coins at all.

I might need to start going to Banks , myself, soon.

  16. Tinto says

    @Daveinswfl

Since I’m basically done with the US Mint, I think I should ask the bank for some half dollar rolls .. and you’re right, it’s cheap. I won’t roll ’em up again after I’ve gone through them .. I’ll just go to a Coinstar located not too far from my apt building, maybe a mile of walking.

  17. Daveinswfl says

    Timothy,
Might I suggest you spend the clads if you don’t want to return them to the bank. The vig on the CoinStar machine is waaaay to high.
I use mine for tips. Many waitresses will spread them around to the other staff and you are also providing a little educational values the younger generation

Wow. Surprisingly big numbers on those medals. I think we will see cancellations (if possible) or maybe returns.

  24. Tinto says

    @Daveinswfl

TD Bank used to have coin counting machines in their lobby and I had opened a checking account in order to use their machines w/out a fee. But they yanked it more than a year ago. What I found with Coinstar is that they have fee free gift card options for certain companies like Amazon and some charities . Since I buy from Amazon I just choose their gift card..it really works .

  25. KCSO says

    Wow! IMPRESSIVE –

The mint sold over 72,000 of the $1 Proof WWI Comm in the first week.

82,000 if you throw in the UNC $1

I would think that some dealers bought an awful lot of these. The silver medals are pretty nice but I have no interest in war medals or military memorabilia. WWI was supposed to be the war to end all wars but it wasn’t and people are still trying to profit from the war 100 years later.

Peace through strength is an empty slogan used by those who are preparing for war.

There is no way to peace, Peace is the way.

A new Peace Dollar (or a tribute) would be a welcome offering from the mint but war medals and coins are not something I’d ever want.

thank you for the link. I like that kind of music. And I share your opinion on military coins of which they have (or had) so many at the usmint.

  29. John Q. Coinage says

Dave & Tinto et al., keep hitting the banks I always ask for the odd stuff, got a “bag” of about 70 mixed Ike$ the other day & there were 8 “S” 40% somehow…. Coinstar reject tray is always a nice scan before entering the market- unfortunately they have not had any offers for like a year & I refuse to pay 12% for my money to be counted…. Best @ bank was about 15 years ago when I asked for any halves the teller had 2 rolls of $20 face I said ok show me, they were unopened 1964-D from Dallas! wow…original wrappers, she asked if they were worth more than a 1/2 I said a ‘little’ and bought them!! Still have them….$20 face rolls are seldom seen anymore @ all (IMHO) I also just got a roll of 1979-S SusyB$ unopened from ’79 a roll of 30!……I also still go thru rolls & rolls, the 5c are almost useless except for 1940’s commons, in cents U will get some wheats but the % of copper pre-82 is goin down, my smelter awaits a change in the law @ $8 copper….IF the $ keeps falling I I may be waiting a LONG time………

The Mint has 258 line items listed on sales report

168 line items show Negative or Zero sales

90 line items show Positive activity

That Tells you Something about the Current state of Mint Sales…

  37. cagcrisp says

@Teach, “Where can you find the weekly mint numbers on line?”

Go to Mint website and find “Production and Sales Figures” then go to “Numismatic Products:Cumulative Sales” and then find the week that you are looking for…

  38. John Q. Coinage says

CAG thanks!!! Guess I can wash down my Vicodin with a beer as I gaze @ my low mintage Betty Ford unc! How are the EU sets still selling??? 2017 burnished ASE might be a play if they go away soon……..GRC ATB looks to be the 15k mintage…we’ll see if that = legs in the aftermarket anymmore!

  39. earthling says

    17XA 2017 AM LIBERTY 24K GOLD 1 OZ 27,463 + 98

Compared to some stuff, that’s shaping up to be a low mintage. If the Mint yanks the rug there could be a real surprise for some. Only thing is, who wants it now – who would want it then?

I can see an early end … in the works. Uggggg. Does anyone really care ?

  40. cagcrisp says

@John Q. Coinage, ” How are the EU sets still selling???”

They…along with others…Are still in Currently Unavailable status.

The Mint should either Sell them or Pull them…

  41. cagcrisp says

The USD is currently down 1.02% in a DAY.

There are many factors in the rise/fall of the USD

A weak dollar or a strong dollar can be good or bad…Depending…

…However, for a Secretary of the Treasury to talk down the dollar publicly …has not happened since the 90s.

Round trip for the Dow today:

    +182 at one point

    …Then…

    -103 points at one point

285 point swing…Words do have meaning when it’s the Secretary of the Treasury and you are talking down the defacto currency of the World

You either Want to be the Leader of the World..Or you Don’t.

Why go to Davos IF you don’t want to be a player on the World Scene?

Since Mnunchin made his comment, Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, tried to walk back the statement as “he didn’t mean that”

    Once it’s out there…it’s out there…

  42. cagcrisp says

    Market’s just closed.

USD lowest level in 3 years.

For those happy with the price of Gold and Silver Today, just wait till you fill up…(and you buy a washing machine)…

  43. cagcrisp says

Pertaining to KCSO post about the Lil Liberty…

I missed the pricing by $5.00…

Current Gold price +$1,350.00 will be $220.00

…SO…My Guess for a Proof 1/10 oz. Gold American Liberty (or whatever) High relief (or whatever) will be $225.00…

  44. Louis says

Talking down the dollar can make sense in certain situations, but when you need foreigners to buy your T-bonds to finance your growing deficits, it is a very bad idea.

  45. John Q. Coinage says

Dollar fall main be paper gains unless you $ell the metals, and then what do you buy –Stox? Hard to argue my IPO Ruku is up almost 3x what I paid, but no sale yet si fantasy $. Lil Lib will sell out pretty quick I see, @ that price w/gold jumping a tad % will be on the item–> Too bad other fractionals don’t appear like maybe those Buff ag or maybe a 1/2z ASE, but the premium would be alot from the USM. Gas has gone up a lot lately 3.69 here in So Cal for the Ethel (how old am I!)

  46. Teach says

@cagcrisp – thanks for info on where to find current mintage totals. Also, thanks for posting what you do concerning the totals. Very helpful!

  47. MarkInFlorida says

cagcrisp: “For those happy with the price of Gold and Silver Today, just wait till you fill up…(and you buy a washing machine)…”
When I fill up I pay an extra couple dollars, when I look at my stack, it’s up many thousands of dollars. Not a bad tradeoff.

  48. John Q. Coinage says

Stock market is legalized gambling, & what goes up will come down, not all the way but eventually it will….and unless you sell they can be a billion$ of stox on paper…….it will balance out when a loaf of bread costs $40…..
