Are 2009 UHR Double Eagles Shipping Today?

Anyone who has ordered the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin has most likely received one or more backorder emails accompanied by an ever shifting array of expected shipping dates. Is the long, confusing wait finally over?

My last post which provided an update on the 2009 UHR Double Eagles came after a backorder email received from the US Mint indicating an estimated shipping date of 2/18. Many readers responded in the comments with their estimated shipping dates which ranged from 2/17 to 2/20. Most of these were for coins ordered on the first day of sales.

Today, I started seeing reader comments mentioning that their status per the US Mint’s online order tracking changed from “backordered” to “in stock and reserved” and the expected shipping date had changed to 02/06/2009, which is today.

I checked the status of my own order and saw the same 2/6 expected shipping date. You can check your own order status on the US Mint’s website here.

Are the 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagles finally shipping today? We should find out for sure, very soon.

The Mint changed my status today – it said yesterday “in stock and reserved” – now is says “backordered – ship date 2/6” and I got an e-mail this morning stating 2/21.

I ordered around 1:30 on the 22nd -so I don’t know what to believe at this point, it’s a moving target.

The mint web site has me “in stock and reserved” as well. The book is still “back ordered” with today, 2/06 being the expected shipping date.

I called the mint yesterday at 3 PM to check on my order. Was told it should ship today.

When I got up this morning and checked my e-mail, I was informed by the mint that my order has been pushed back to 2/21.

I had a very early order time, within the very first 5 minutes of this coin going on sale.

I am thinking the Mint is trying to ship the coin with the book, to save shipping costs on their part.

The question is, how is it the mint does not know whats going on with these products??

I also bought the Double Eagle on day 1, my ship date was 02/06/09 with status ‘on hold’. In the 1st week of feb the status was changed to ‘in process’. Thinking it would ship today 02/06 my order went further out one month! New ship date 03/06/06. Go figure?

Could the Mint be looking to prioritize UHR orders for customers with other outstanding orders? Are they that sophisticated? I have 2 888’s on order and the first one is listed as in process with no cancel box. The second 888 is on hold, but in stock reserved. My UHR order has a ship date for the coin of 2/6, but the book is 2/20. I ordered the UHR around 2 p.m. Could the Mint be trying to save some money shipping multiple orders that require a signature all at one time. They can send the book later as bulk mail. However, if the UHR is your only order, they may hold the UHR coin and send when they get the book in stock. Oh well, I can always hope that my order will jump the line and the UHR will get shipped with the 888 set!!!!!

My ship date has always been on 2/06 for both items. Several days ago, status on the coin changes to “in stock and reserved”. Book was still backordered.

Today the book status was postponed two weeks. I called the Mint and they said no coins have shipped because they are still weeding out people who placed multiple orders.

I asked if I could cancel the book to get the coin faster and was told that they may ship the coins without the books, but that they are not ready to ship the coins.

Keith, the mint is weeding out people that have multiple orders. Thats interesting. I am wondering if the one coin per household is really one coin per person. I have read where people where placing multiple orders, just using friends and families addresses to have coins shipped to.

Today the Mint notified me that my shipping date changed from 02/06 to 03/06. I ordered on first day at about 7 PM.

Using friends and family members to have items shipped to in an attempt to get around order limits will only work if the order is placed using THEIR credit cards. Simply using a different shipping address while using the same credit card for multiple orders WILL NOT WORK. The Mint uses the credit card billing address to determine which “household” the order is going to. Any duplicate orders with the same credit card billing address WILL BE CANCELLED. It may take a few days, but it WILL happen eventually. Trust me on that, as I found out the hard way long ago.

If you want to order multiples of a “1 per household” item, you have to have the cash money in hand to give to friends/family who order it for you using their own credit cards. It’s definitely a drag, but sometimes still worth it if the item is good enough. I personally don’t think the UHR is worth that effort, especially since the order limit of 1 per household will not last. I still say it will be bumped up to at least 5, maybe 10, later on this year. Then you can charge all of the coins on your own credit card, maybe taking advantage of a 0% intro APR! 🙂

I, too, also ordered a couple 888s with my UHR. I ordered within about 45 minutes of the sale start time and mine shows “In Stock and Reserved” for the coin and a ship date of 02/06/2009 for the book.

What’s interesting is that something big has hit my credit card because they are holding a block of credit. However, I can’t see what the item is because the cc company hasn’t officially posted it yet. Because my 888s also show a “In stock and reserved” status, I do not yet know if it is the 888s or the UHR that has hit my cc account. I will post a comment once I find out later today or tomorrow.

If the S.H.T.F., they could stop producing any/all gold products at any time. These are crazy times, and the rule books have seemingly been thrown out of the window, assuming our government followed them in the first place.

For those who like to get their coins graded it appears there will only be a small number of UHR coins that can get the EARLY RELEASE designation if any. They are supposed to be in the hands of the grading service within 30 days of release.
If you like that designation it appears it will be very rare and might be a good move unless the grading services modify the 30 day limit. For the most part EARLY RELEASE seems like a gimmick to me but in this case it might work for the people who like grading their coins.

  12. Keith says

    – Not sure about PCGS, but NGC won’t start the Early Release clock until the first coin actually ships. So the fact that the Mint hasn’t shipped any coins yet is not ruining the chance of getting an “early release” designation.

    – During my phone conversation with the Mint, I asked several pressing questions for which I didn’t expect, and of course, didn’t get an answer.

Why didn’t the Mint anticipate demand and begin taking orders later in the year?

Why hasn’t the Mint made significant improvements to the web and phone ordering systems?

Why do items shown as “in stock and reserved” sometimes take several weeks to be processed for shipping?

The only one they tried answering was that they warned us that it could take six months to fulfill the UHR orders.

I tried explaining to them that the Mint is losing what little credibility that they had left and if they aren’t careful, future products are going to be met with a lot of resistance from the the collector base.

    – I am convinced that by the time the current Mint leadership is replaced, history will reflect that this has been one of the worst Mint director’s in modern history.

According to PCGS, they haven’t set the cut-off date for the 1st Strike designation due to all of the delays. So no need to fret about that.

BREAKING NEWS … whoa dude I just saw the mint’s web site update before my very eyes … it went from a ship date of 3/20 on a blank page to 3/27 with info.

Anyway, back to my post …

So the us mint’s web site now states a shipping date of 3/20 (now 3/27 – ed.). Does that mean earlier orders will also get pushed out? I’ve not received a notice from the mint since the last one stating delivery of a 2/18 backorder on a first-day purchase.

I posted (#4) earlier wondering if the Mint might be looking to prioritize UHR orders for customers with other outstanding orders. On 2/7 I received a letter from the Mint requiring a signature confirmation of my 888 order placed on 1/8. The letter stated that if I did not provide the signature-required response in 10 days, my order would be cancelled. The reason given was the significant dollar value of the order. There was no mention of a second 888 order placed on 1/20 that also included two $5 eagle proofs or a third outstanding order for the UHR placed on 1/22. These are my first Mint orders. I am wondering if it is standard Mint practice to require signature confirmation for some undisclosed dollar amount for new customers? If not, they might be trying to leverage their new pricing policy by delaying or encouraging cancellation of orders for items that have increased in price if they have outstanding orders that exceed the current or planned inventory for a given product. And for the record, I have zero debt and pay off my credit cards in full each month – there is absolutely no justification for the Mint to question the credit worthiness of the purchase.

NO FAIR! I keep just trying to place one order and the mint holds it for a few days, then keeps cancelling it. It’s happened twice and I keep getting sent farther back in the queue. Their automatic generated email doesn’t explain why the orders are cancelled and there is no way to reach customer service by email. I infer the cancellations are because the price keeps increasing, but the ordering information anticipated a price increase. So why cancel customer’s legitimate orders and keep moving them back in the queue? It’s extremely aggrevating and certainly does not “ensure the broadest and most fair product access”. I’m just trying to buy their product. Their system is broke.

I was able to get my order in before the 1st hour was up. Then they changed my shipping date to 02/06/09. Then they sent an email delaying it till the 20th. My account changed shortly after that, from 02/06/09 02/18/09. I surely hope, that they are not holding the coins, because the books are not available yet.

ANSWER TO POST #4 THE MINT DOES SEND A LETTER FOR A ORDER WITH A HIGH DOLLAR AMOUNT. MY FIRST ORDER WAS FOR AROUND $200.00 AND I DIDN’T GET A LETTER. BUT MY SECOND ORDER WAS FOR A 1 oz PLATNIUM EAGLE FOR $1700.00 AND I ALSO GOT A LETTER REQUESTING A SIGNATURE BEFORE THEY WOULD SHIP ITEM. IT IS FOR YOUR SAFTEY, TO VERIFY THAT SOMEONE DIDN’T STEAL YOUR CREDIT CARD

One contributor to this blog claims that his order has shipped!! He claims that he cancelled the book and this was the secret.
I have just cancelled the book and I will be anxious to see if it speeds delivery.
Has anyone else had a shipping notification for the UHR coin?

I ordered the first day less than 2 hours into the mess. My ship date has always been 2/6 on their website. Even had an In Stock & Reserved status at one point. However got emails with Backorder status and shifting dates. When 2/6 came around, I called the Mint to see which status was the accurate one: the website or their emails. Turns out the emails are the accurate way of knowing your status. She could not tell me why but the latest is that I shall be getting my coin on 2/21. But who knows? I still can't believe their Order Status area is not factual.

Looks like this will be the week of receiving the UHR Double Eagles for those who ordered first (mine was ordered within first 5 mins). I have checked two locations a couple of times a day… my credit card was just charged for the coin and now both the coin and book state “in stock and reserved.” When I have ordered from the US Mint in the past, my credit card is always the first to know 😉 I expect shipment to arrive with the free upgrade to expedited shipment very soon as I am in Atlanta… this has been my experience in the past.

  22. Brad says

My order status changed to “In Stock and Reserved” this afternoon, but the cancellation box is still there. I think the last e-mail that I got from the Mint said my coin was expected to ship on 2/27. Who knows?

  23. sure says

my history is placed order 12:30pm(approx) 1/22, got 1/28 ship notice, got 2/06 ship notice, got 2/17 ship notice, got 2/18 ship notice, on track page today both items go to in stock and reserved and they hit my bank account for the money. In the past it has been 1 or 2 days for the money to clear, then they remove cancel option, then they ship, usually within 5 to 7 working days. Based on experience the coin is moving through the system now. I have also read on a couple forums that cancel options are gone and some ship notices reported.

    In stock and reserved, yahoo.
I wonder how many blanks the Slaughter House secured? Thinking about lighty circulating this fine piece in my pocket, to the AU range. Will PCGS slab it? We are nothing more than lamb, standing in line to get slaughtered.

I am wondering why the Mint website Order Tracking facility has been down for the past 5 days or so. The message tells you that you have to call the Mint on the phone for status.

Hee hee, hilarious. I love the mint giving arbitrary dates for delivery.

    Anyone received theirs yet?

  27. Anonymous says

I ordered my UHR within an hour of release on Jan 22 and still have not received it yet. I have called the US mint twice and was told shipped first come, first served.
which is bs because I know for a fact others that ordered after I did have received theirs. I have never been so upset at the US mint.
