Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set, March of Dimes Set Update

Today, May 12, 2015 at 12:00 Noon ET, the United States Mint will begin accepting orders for the Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set featuring Dwight D. Eisenhower and Mamie Eisenhower.

eisenhower

Each set contains an uncirculated Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Dollar and the Mamie Eisenhower First Spouse Bronze Medal. This represents the first availability of the bronze medal, which will also be included within a four medal set issued near the end of the year.

The coin and medal come mounted on a plastic card containing images of the President and First Lady with their facsimile signatures. The back of the card contains specification information and a certificate of authenticity.

The sets are priced at $9.95 each. There are no stated product limits or household ordering limits in place.

The previously released set within the series featuring Harry S. Truman and Bess Truman went on sale April 29, 2015 and has reached sales of 1,502 units as of the most recent sales report.

The next set within the series will feature John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy and is scheduled for release in July 2015.

March of Dimes Special Silver Set Sales Update

As of today, sales have reached 71,114 units. This accounts for 94.8% of the 75,000 product limit and leaves just 3,886 units left to order.

The US Mint has now lifted the household ordering limit. Until now, a limit of 5 units per household had been in place.

On missing c.o.a. Was told to ship all back. I will not be ordering any thing from the us mint any more.Good thing I did not ship them out to tpg. I be out all that money.

  2. Eddie says

I know this is a stupid question but how do you cancel an order from the mint?
I have a back order for 2 sets of MoD’s suppose I want to cancel them how do I do it because there is no cancel bottom there. I’m not wanting to cancel I am just wondering.

  3. Brad says

    John,

I figured that’s what they’d tell you. They told me the same thing last year when I received a proof First Spouse coin that had a couple of small rips in the outer cardboard sleeve. I kept telling her that the COIN was fine, and I didn’t want to risk receiving a sub-par coin on the CHANCE that the next sleeve would be acceptable. I was finally told by a supervisor that I would receive a replacement sleeve. After about a month of waiting with no sleeve arriving, I called again. The next supervisor I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about, and I was told I had to send the coin back. I finally gave up. All they would have had to do was send me a new sleeve to replace the ripped one that never should have been sent out in the first place. It didn’t happen in transit, since the outer shipping box was fine. That kind of damage would be impossible during shipping it would seem.

Back in 2008, my uncirculated Andrew Jackson’s Liberty coin was missing the COA. I called about it, and they told me they’d send one out. My order page online showed that a replacement COA was on backorder, so I knew that something was happening with it. It took almost a year, but I ultimately did receive it. By that time though I had already given up and just bought an empty box with COA on eBay a couple months before the replacement from the Mint arrived. I then later sold the box and COA I had bought for a small profit.

  4. Mark says

Ordered 20 more MOD sets…says processing. Maybe it will change to back ordered later. Any one else order any more?

  5. boz says

wondering if large palletized orders from coin vault and such have sucked out the last remaining inventory this morning. their trucks are backing into the lading dock even now

  6. Boz says

Mark I would like to think so since I have to wait for my 3 sets. But I am savvy enough to know that money talks and BS walks. There had to be more than meets the eye. What was the big rush to sell out the last 3500 if they have no ability to fill the 50,000 already on backorder?

  7. JBK says

Could also be that they need to clear the field for the RP Pres sets coming up….

The Mint and the fulfillment company have a tough few months coming up….

  8. Mark says

Yes ..the mint sometimes used to lift the limit, after a certain amount of time. Cant remember if it was one or two weeks. But it was always in weeks. These have been on sale for 9 days. Something smells fishy.

What are order and household limits?
    Answer ID: 108

In cases where we have limited-mintage products (e.g., legislatively mandated or Mint established production or mintage limits), the United States Mint may impose order or household limits. Order limits help us ensure that we provide fair purchase opportunities to the broadest audience possible. As we monitor our products, limits may be implemented, adjusted, or removed at our discretion.

We will retain a limited number of orders above the maximum product limit. This is known as our waitlist. If inventory becomes available due to cancellations, we will fulfill waitlist orders on a first-in, first-served basis. We cannot provide you with information about your position on the waitlist.

  10. ips_stuff says

I placed two orders for MOD after Mark posted

I received emails about processing, but pulled them up on the mints web site and one indicates ON HOLD the other indicates BACKORDER.

Not sure the rhyme or reason for one on hold and one on backorder.

  11. Boz says

I am sure the March of Dimes will benefit by pushing them out the door, but do the charitable orgs have to wait till the back orders are all paid for to get their donations?

Are portions of my commem purchases tax deductible? I got a potload of baseball coins?

  12. bigboy says

used spring /summer catalog for ordering march of dimes set, sent them a check processed on the 4th of may ,received fri the 8th by ups truck, never in my life have I got anything from the mint that fast, I used the order blank in the spring/summer catalog

  13. CasualCollector says

With the removal of the order limits, I think this will sell out VERY SOON (most likely sometime today). I just order a couple of more sets. Last call for those looking to get these…

  14. CasualCollector says

Based on order numbers for 2 different orders I placed, I think these things will be gone before 2:00pm EST. Good luck!

  15. Samuel says

i still did not see the order confirmation email, so they must be very busy at this moment.

  16. Ralph says

On my way to order some Ike coin & medal set’s, I stopped by here first. Once again I am finding useful information. It was reported the MOD set’s limit was lifted. Ordered another 5 set’s. Thank you Mint News Blog!

    🙂

  17. Dustyroads says

john~ Here’s a start at finding COS’s, if you are interested, I know that’s what I would do. I certainly wouldn’t concluded that I would never buy a single coin from the Mint again, but I have to agree that the US Mint should have a way to send you your missing COA’s. If my memory has not failed me, I think someone here said they were missing a COA and the Mint sent them one some time back for another offering. I would keep trying the Mint. Here’s the add anyway:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-March-Of-Dimes-Special-Silver-Set-BOX-COA-ONLY-NO-COIN-/301629087376?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item463a7e9e90

  18. says

    JBK,

It makes sense they’d want to sell out the MoD set as quickly as possible. They want to get those silver dollars out the door as fast as they can and perhaps have time to relist the set if there’s a lot of order cancellations.

  19. GoldFishin says

The MOD offering was on track to sell out by week’s end anyway, so why remove the household limits? Could be a number of reasons…..to develop a nice waiting list to have backup orders for buyers/flippers that aren’t patient enough to wait until August and cancel their orders, to allow some of the big retailers to buy quantity or maybe they actually learned that Household limits only need to be applicable for about a week. Leaving them on longer than that actually hurts the offering’s sales.
The only other reason I can think of to be in a rush to sell it out is if they actually will fulfill all orders much earlier than August.
HSN is probably the answer…pure and simple. 😉

  20. Sith says

We are currently out of this item, but more may be available later. Provide your email using the “REMIND ME” button and we will let you know when we are taking orders again.

  21. Sith says

I think they wanted to make one big order for the boxes and blanks, rather than a big order and then a smaller or several smaller orders, but could not do so without an actual order being in the system

  22. cagcrisp says

@Boz, “Are portions of my commem purchases tax deductible?” Nope… IF you get audited it will be disallowed. To be allowed you must have Proof that a contribution was made by YOU (receipt, cancelled check, cc , etc.). The Mint is/isn’t making all the contributions for commemorative coins…

  23. Mark Rex says

USM03246xxx – Just got done ordering the last 18 March of Dimes Special Silver Sets at 1:30 PM after I seen an email in my inbox saying they raised the HH limit from Coin News. When I got to the page their was 25 left but I guess every time I went to checkout someone had ordered a few. Went from 25 to 24 to 20 to 18 before I could get a confirmation. The email by time I seen it was an hour old. Had to remove 100 sets and 100 P pucks first though, it was exciting. I cant believe it took this long to sell out!

Actually I just checked ‘My Account’ at the US Mints website and under order history it shows…

Orders Total Date Placed Shipping Status
    USM03246xxx $1,120.05 05/12/2015 PROCESSING
    USM03246xxx $1,243.95 05/12/2015 PROCESSING
    3 order numbers apart

My confirmation page shows my total as $1,120.05 with an order number. When I did the 20 it took me to a shopping cart empty page so not sure whats going on there or if I got anything. When I click on the order number is just brings the order history page back up.

  24. Ends in Error says

Well the Mint wants to clear out the product fast. The ones waiting end up getting returns. In the end, everything is sold or melted, good until the next product cycle.

  25. Tinto says

    @GoldFishin

And probably others like Cable Shopping Network CSNTV ….. appearing some late nights on CNBC cable …. same HSN guy ….

  26. Brad says

    Goldfishin,

You bet! I’m always glad to help out.

I ordered an additional 11 sets this morning myself. I couldn’t resist getting more of the low-mintage dimes.

  27. ABC says

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this before but, for those who ordered the MoD sets, you should look at the reverse of the silver proof dollar. I ordered 5 sets and 4 out of 5 silver dollars have a rim defect between the words “United” and “States”. Looks like the rims were scraped at that area.

  28. fmtransmitter says

The only other reason I can think of to be in a rush to sell it out is if they actually will fulfill all orders much earlier than August.

Exactly why, we’ve seen it before and will continue. It just goes on the to do jobs list for the day for the press operator. The date will move up.

  29. fmtransmitter says

I think these dimes will do well down the road and even sooner, just need to see some slabbed ones and how they are grading. I do not think the RP will grade 70 too much. The Proof I can see it grading 70 a lot more.

  30. Vetnut says

Anyone notice, the coins on theMOD set pop out of the packaging a lot easier than previous products. Did the Mint fix that problem?

  31. SilverFan says

These are sold out now. Prices are sure to rise immediately on eBay. I can imagine dealers buying these up now for resale once people realize that their back order is never going to be filled.

  32. cagcrisp says

I Think the Mint did the right thing lifting the HH limits. Those that wanted a set had Plenty of time to get what they wanted. After that, buy All you want should be appropriate…

  33. cagcrisp says

I don’t see Any reason that Anyone on the BO list will get someone else’s rejects OR that their order will go unfilled…

There was NO waitlist like in the BHOF coins…

AND….I see the August date as just being a place holder. All BO will be shipped earlier than August…

  34. thePhelps says

I agree cag… with less than 5,000 to a sellout and over a week for the offering it makes sense. The only thing that might make that a little troublesome… is the fact they sent out a mailer and some people may have just mailed in their order. I might be a little PO’d if that happened.

  35. Louis says

Vetnut- I did notice that and was pleased about it. I think the presentation of these sets is good, and as others have noted, the dimes should do well down the road.

For those who have been clamoring about household limits for the C&C sets (and with good reason) I have a new article today suggesting lower limits.

  36. cagcrisp says

I wish the Mint would make a CONSISTENT HH limit statement on ALL products: you have X number or days at Y and then it goes to Unlimited…

  37. Louis says

A question for Panda collectors- what do you think of the FUn show first reverse proof medal with 6K mintage? The design is really nice.

  38. Mark says

@Louis…very nice indeed. But the pf70 are already way up there. And the ones still in original mint boxes are the ones they knew would not grade very well.

  39. Mark says

MOD sets pf70 on ebay $219.00 Whats it cost to get them graded at NGC. Forgot and too lazy to look it up.

  40. Louis says

    Thanks, Mark.

On the grading I think about around $100 a set by the time you add it all up. Prices for graded sets will be cheaper next week I predict.

  41. gary says

@Louis… nice Panda design but I don’t collect Panda medals, just the coins.

  42. says

For those getting new smart chip replacement credit cards in the mail, don’t forget to update your auto-pay and enrollment stuff. Usually there is a new expiration date and that will cause your orders to bounce. Could be catastrophic on a quick selling item like these special mint products are getting to be.

  43. Mark says

So help me out..I never do this grading stuff. The seller on ebay wants $119.00 for a set of MOD graded pf69. Set cost $62.00 and grading fees lets say $90.00 /set. After ebay/paypal free shipping he is in the hole about $50.00 – $60.00…… His pf70 sets are $219.00 after all said and done his profit is about $25.00- $30.00. Just does not add up..why bother.

  44. JBK says

I am with Mark – the #s do not add up on the costs and sales prices…

If PF70 are as hard as they say to get (on tge RP), then how much profit is there in a $219 slabbed set after spending a small fortune to grade enough sets to get the 3 PF70s?

  45. cagcrisp says

@Mark , Look at Who is Selling the $219.00 sets. There in lies all the Answers.

  46. Louis says

Mark- If you are having a lot of sets graded, your fees are much lower. They have special rates for large orders.

  47. Mark says

Yes i forgot to look at who the seller is, but still must be a hell of a discount. And i bet a lot of their 69s look better than their 70s.

  48. Samuel says

Boz, same situation – amex card. Received the card 2 hours after placed the order. I will not activate the new card until I get the august order.

  49. Louis says

You don’t have to be a dealer to get bulk rate discounts, which I think bring it down to close to $10 a coin. You just have to submit a boatload of coins. If Steve is around, he should have an idea as I think he has done this.

  50. Louis says

Lots of people including here manage to get around those limits easily and dealers have their employees place orders.

  51. cagcrisp says

New numbers are in from the Mint…

FS unc Truman shows 1,089 Sold. 35 left in the queue…

Total mintage could be less than 1,200. Will Eisenhower be the same? IF that is indeed the new “low” standard, that would chase out all those looking for the “lows” from the remaining 2014 coins (Harding, Coolidge and Hoover). I wonder if we are not already seeing that effect because with the exception of the Truman and the Eisenhower, Sales of the remaining FS coins were Dismal. Excluding Truman and Eisenhower a Total of 34 Golds were Sold from 15 options…

  52. JBK says

I do not buy the FS coins, but I would think that we are at or very near the bottom for low mintages. As we move into the Presidents/FLs who people remember first hand I would expect the market to expand at least slightly. Whether this phenominon will start with JFK or Ike or is anybody’s guess.

  53. john says

The mint send me a return ups label to ship back the 5 set that are missing the c.o.a. But I can not get my printer to print the label. It print the letter but not the label. I have been on this all day calling the mint . Does antone know how to gat the shiping label to print.

  54. thePhelps says

cag…that is making a complete set of FS look like a rarer and rarer commodity… I don’t like the entire series – but that could make for a nice hold for future sale set.

There are 26 Truman Unc’s left.
The million dollar question is will the Mint stamp out another group of Uncs. I am torn, but I do think that if there is money to be made, the mint will want to make it. I would guess that the mint will produce another round of Uncs before the end of the year. If not this coin is going to be a Buzz Lightyear – “to infinity and beyond.”

  60. Erik H says

If you’re not a label chaser now is a good time to pick up a MOD Proof $1 on the bay. Average price is around $40 or you can get it from the mint for $51.95 plus shipping. I guess the box and piece of paper aka COA are worth the extra $$.

  61. OJB says

    Samuel,
Caution– I got my new Chase card with the chip last week. There was this statement in the instructions:
“MAKE SURE YOU START USING YOUR NEW CHIP-ENABLED CARD AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS
YOUR OLD CARD WILL STOP WORKING ABOUT 60 DAYS AFTER RECEIPT.”

Your credit card company’s rules may be different, but don’t wait till August to find out.

  62. mark says

Do you guys really ship $1000.00 +++ coins on the bay? Guess I need to grow a bigger pair.

  63. Samuel says

OJB, thanks for the info. my card is AMEX, they did not say a specific date, but I probably will update my card info with them.

  64. James Roberts says

regarding the truman uncs, how can you tell from the mint’s site how many are left? thanks!

  65. Dustyroads says

You got it mark, it’s a little nerve wracking, but Priority or Certified mail adds some security. I have only sold a couple times on ebay and most of my sells have been smaller amounts, but several have been over a thousand. I’ve said this before here, so I’ll say it again, if you decide to sell anything on ebay, make sure you ONLY send to a verified address within the States, or you will not be covered by PayPal seller protection. There are a lot of people on ebay who will buy an item, then send you a note to send it to anther country or an unverified address. This is a classic scam. You will get paid, but then the buyer will later ask their credit card co. to reverse the charges, they will, and you will lose your money. If the address is verified, then PayPal will protect you.

  66. mark says

Put 100 in your cart. How many left will be in red. Only works when there are less than 100 available

  67. Dustyroads says

James Roberts~ Id you add 99 to your cart, you will see a number reflecting the available supply if the supply is less than 100.

  68. GoldFishin says

I think $219 for a graded PF70 MOD set is a relatively fair price taking all things into consideration. I actually believe the 3 pieces would have sold for more if he would have auctioned them individually, at least this early in the game. About bulk submissions…..at PCGS the bulk discount normally requires a minimum 100 coins of each coin type and the submitter normally receives what amounts to a 33% discount on the coins that meet minimum grade. There may be slight variations in that based on unique labels, but basically that is how it usually works. NGC works in a similar fashion, but you don’t have the expensive First Strike fee, the main reason more dealers go with NGC in my opinion. NGC is also faster grading and returning your coins under modern tier pricing.
Unlike the JFK’s, I am Not sure if there will be a plethora of graded ER/FS MOD sets. I think one could wait for a while, but if you really want those dimes slabbed for potential future appreciation, I wouldn’t be too frugal about it. Usually supply peaks at about the 6-8 week mark after the release date, so keep that in mind when trying to decide when to buy.
There are a couple factors that lead me to believe why a limited amount of ER/FS graded supply is possible. First, the on hand supply that will be eligible for ER/FS was maybe about a third of the final product limit. Also, although dealers do find a way to get around the household limits to some degree, it does have a limiting effect on them and it really limits smaller sellers. It is not like they can just order a thousand units in a few minutes. Well, that was until today!! 😉 All just conjecture on my part, take it for what it is worth.

  69. mark says

My one time shipping high dollar coins. Back in 2010 sold a set of 2010 ms69 5 oz ATBs sold for $2500.00. Shipped FedEx signature required. When delivered tracking showed delivered left at front door. Never received positive feedback but never heard a word from buyer. Thats when I said never again on high dollar stuff.

  70. GoldFishin says

@Mark- I rarely ship high dollar coins anymore…the main reason is because Ebay kept raising its Maximum Final Value Fee to higher and higher levels. It used to be capped at $50, then $100, etc. Now I think it is $750. It makes selling high dollar modern coins unprofitable in many cases and rarely worth the risk.
Anyway, the highest dollar coin I ever sold on Ebay was a 2009 UHR graded 70 First Strike. It sold for $4800 and I shipped it Registered mail. Back then in 2011 there wasn’t as much tracking information and I only saw the depart scan for 10 days. I was sweating bullets the size of basketballs until it mercifully arrived in TX safe and sound. 🙂

  71. Dustyroads says

GoldFishin~ Could it be that you are mad at something else. After all, I, Jefe, do not have your superior intellect. So yes, I would have to say that you have a plethora of pinatas. 🙂

  72. MikeinPa says

James, put 50 in the bag and it will tell you the current amount available, than empty your bag

  73. GoldFishin says

@Dusty- mad as a hatter….I don’t know why, but plethora came to mind at the time. It seemed appropriate. At one time in my youth I had memorized around 2000 SAT words….every now and then I remember one of them…most of the time I have to look them up. 😉 Oh, and I love pinacoladas!! And Texas!! And the Kansas City Jefes…not!

  74. Louis says

GF- You make some good pts, but when it comes to graded sets it is always a good idea not to ask the first pretty girl who you see to go home. But you probably know that.

  75. Dustyroads says

GoldFishin~ No affence, I just have to laugh any time I here that word used. I tier up thinking about Chevy Chase responding, “we pruned the hedges of many small villages”.

  76. Brad says

In the case of the Truman gold coins, instead of going to “currently unavailable” status, they may go to “backorder” instead. Maybe the Mint plans to take orders for a few months, then produce the coins needed to fill those orders before year-end and call it quits. They’re as tired of the 2013’s as we are, but they apparently can’t bring themselves to melt them down. However, they’re going to be sure not to be left sitting on a lot of 2015’s!

I guess we’ll have our answer regarding the status of the uncirculated coin sometime today.

  77. Zaz says

Down to 4 unc and 37 proof Trumans this morning. Agree with your scenario, Brad. It seems more likely to go on backordered status than currently unavailable or out of stock. For such high value product it makes practical sense to batch out and fulfill backorders every 3-4 weeks or so. Probably the same initial batch of having on hand 1,500/1,200 for Eisenhower, and for the August release of Johnson. The latter coin might come in lowest for ’15 for fewest months left in the year. Kennedy initially might be 3,000/2,000 on hand for first day sales.

  78. KEITHSTER says

Put Me in for the currently unavailable status and then walk her out the door! Heck the Edith proof even has two of those so why not stay true to the Truman? I know I asked for some kind of blinky of a sellout and they did give us the countdown. So use it don’t abuse it Dear Mint this one should tell us a lot? Call Denver Call Philly or HQ just don’t make no more ! Keep Her Hot And Good Lucking All:>:>:>:>:>:>:>:>:>:>

  79. Zaz says

Yup, the one thing you can always count on is the US Mint’s unpredictably. Truman unc is currently unavailable and if 1,200 is all she wrote that is the undisputed low for the FS uncs for now.

  80. Samuel says

the mint changes style these days. they mint coins in batches. if the demand is strong, they will mint another batch. for FS coins, we all know the demand is extremely low, the sales is slow, and they know it too. from the dime set we can see they want to get all things out of door and focus on the next release. so i guess they won’t make another batch, especially they already sold 1200, comparing to 1900 for the 2014 ones. i think they gradually adjust to 1-year sale window for the coins.

  81. Brad says

They don’t make it sound very promising regarding the Truman uncirculated, do they? “More may be available later.” The fact that they’ve stopped taking orders doesn’t bode too well. I had said earlier that the Trumans may be low-mintage, but honestly believed that they would take orders on backorder and strike a second batch at some point.

Maybe they still will, after they’ve seen how demand goes for the Kennedy coins. They may just want to save those blanks for now.

The proof only has 24 left at the time of this writing, so it will likely also be unavailable for an unknown period of time starting sometime today.

  82. Brad says

Scratch that, all the proofs sold while I was typing that last comment. They’re gone now, too.

  83. Ends in Error says

All the recent Medals have gone off and on several times. Currently there are a bunch with an Aug 1st Back in Stock date. I suspect the FS Coins will be in a holding pattern, as already mentioned, pending the Jackie ordering boom.

They could be saving planchettes for Jackie O. They have until the end of the year to make more of the rest, provided they have any gold left.

  86. fmtransmitter says

To the poster who had all the missing COA’s from the MOD sets? Did you ever get any answer of the issue resolved? Thanks in advance…

  87. Dave SW FL says

    First Spouse Mourners….oops, collectors
Opportunity knocking?? Just got my 2016 Blue Book and some year-over-year values dropped DRASTICALLY !! Gold down $200/oz at the bullion pricing, yet there are 6 Unc and 3 proofs with BB values down $370-640 for the 1/2 oz coin.
The high mintage early ones dropped only $80 each.
So if you are missing ,say, the ’08 Libertys or the Julia Tyler, now might just be a good time to fill in missing coins.
At my LCS auction a few weeks ago I was able to pick up two for my collection at UNDER spot! So there are deals out there.
Good luck to all FS collectors. I believe patience will be a virtue for full set holders.

  88. Dave SW FL says

Denver & Philly do not carry First Spouse coins

DC store does, BUT you have to pick them up in person. They do have the Unc Bess Truman in stock @ $770 . I can’t afford the airfare to pick one up, so guess the Bay saves the day for me!

  89. Zaz says

Weird– I had the Truman proof in the shopping cart after the CU bye announcement. Went to checkout on lark, pop up asked to remove unavailable item but processed the order anyway. So much for PFSWeb for being state of the art. Though I suspect the one-offs on the weekly sales report are from active cart items after un availability. Anyone else encounter this situation?

  90. Hidalgo says

If I were to speculate on the First Spouse gold coins, I would buy only those coins that I would want to add to my collection. With that being said, Bess Truman would not be one of them. However, I would be interested in Mamie Eisenhower, Jacqueline Kennedy, and Nancy Reagan.

If I were to buy them and they were overproduced, I would have coins that mean a lot to me. The sentimental value would be worth more than the value of each coin’s gold content.

  91. Dave SW FL says

Bit the bullet for an MS70 Bess. I doubt they strike any more of them (but we won’t tell you- our policy is to keep ’em guessing .) Onward and forward to the popular (familiar) Presidents. Might start at a higher price – gold looks like it wants to break through the 200 day ma.

  92. blackbeard says

2015 high relief gold $75 has anyone heard information on the release date?

  93. Dustyroads says

Congratulations guys on the new lows, I’ve got a good feeling about them. It’s too bad they’re out of season for me, I wouldn’t mind owning a 1200.

    Blackbeard~ Yeah..TBD

  94. john says

Missing c.o.a. from march of dimes,I have to return all five,Talk to many at the mint new rule if something is missing have to return. Was told I will get the sets back with c.o.a will see.

  95. JBK says

Personally, I like to have the COAs with all my sets, and I would have been ticked off if I got a set without one (I haven’t opened mine yet so maybe I did!). But, it is hardly worth returning them over the missing certs, since you will most likely not get replacements.

You could have bought empty cases with COAs on eBay (leftovers from people who had their sets slabbed.) You could also have sold the dimes off singly for more than the sets cost, or of course sold the sets as is.

For people who think the mint should not fill subsequent orders with returns, how about these sets? Rejected only because they were missing a COA. Something to think about….

  96. Clark says

The possible sellout (which I think may be temporary) of Truman spouses reminds me how important it is to buy all coins in a series as soon as they are issued. I can always sell the ones I don’t want later, probably at a loss, but it’s not always possible or cheap to get the ones I wait too long to buy.

  97. Vetnut says

My MOD sets are “The Bomb” no problems at all. I’ve been pretty lucky with the Mint. Any items I return, they resolve the discrepancy.

  98. mark says

@Louis…any word from the Mint why the newly designed web site kept crashing on the MOD release. I know there is no more waiting room, but did it not put you in a queue before.

  99. cagcrisp says

@blackbeard, The Mint added it for Release in December. No date yet in December…

  100. Brad says

I hope someone with influence at the Mint reads that article and the limit on the Truman sets is lowered to 1 per household before June 30. At least that way the sellout might take five minutes instead of one! I really don’t want to miss out on that set.

  101. fmtransmitter says

2014 Franklin D. Roosevelt Coin and Chronicles set is still available from the U.S. Mint, but the sets coming out this year are expected to sell-out quickly because of the inclusion of the first reverse proof presidential dollars.

marketing 101…I hope it is obvious to all of you that the RP is new goto facto to move inventory from here on out. NO turning back so any EARLY RP I see as a go but am jumping off the bandwagon now on CLAD RP offerings, low mintage or not, just not worth it for what I collect and again, we collect what we like. I suspect most who want that set is to flip it and not enjoy it for what it is meant to be…IMHO

  102. GoldFishin says

@ FM- Just humor, FM….plug in any of your large buyers into this statement…GM, MCM, (oops they are the same), HSN, Coinvault, etc…..

“especially important because large buyers often use friends and employees to snap of most of the first tranche of sales”

  103. john says

I check out ebay for the c.o.a going for 5.00 puls shiping.no way 25.00 more for something I all ready paid for to the mint .

  104. JBK says

How many of the five sets were you goign to keep? Get one or two COAs and sell the other sets. I seriously doubt you will get replacement sets. As far as I know, the new routine is to get credited for the returns and then reorder, which in this case will not happen sicne they are sold out.

The sets are worth moe than issue price with or without COAs. Either buy a COA for the sets you want to keep, or sell them all and make some $$$. I guess if you return them then at least some other lucky collector on the wait list who missed out will get a second shot.

  105. JBK says

As for the RP dolalr set, no matter what the limit is, there will be people who are not happy. If it is a limit of 1, then those who buy for their kids or grandkids will miss out. If it is 5, then there will be mayhem as we have seen, and a lot of collectors will miss out. The real issue is that the market has changed dramatically from what it once was, partly due to the TPGs with their special labels, and the collectors/speculators who feed the demand for those products. As late as 2006 (Silver Eagle set) and 2009 (UHR gold), coins that were certain to be popular on the aftermarket and sure rise in value once a sell-out occurred were still available for ample time for anyone to get in on the action. Now, you need to be on the Mint’s site by the stroke of noon to be able to have a decent chance of success with a hot issue.

Personally, I think the household limit should be 17,000, as long as I am first in line.

  106. Louis says

    Thanks, guys.

As for MCM- Rest assured there is no need to worry about them becoming like GM. AMS owns many companies in different sectors like jewelry and watches. They own Stauer watches you have seen advertised in major magazines, and I have 2 of them.
I actually write for the MCM site and know the management, and the company is not changing apart from being able to carry a wider range of coins.
If you are interested go to the Info Vault section of their web site for some of my stuff for them, including one on the March of Dimes set under articles from last week.
They have always been a total class act in all my dealings with them and 100% professional, and I do not see any reason that will change.
    I

  107. Eddie says

    @John
if I had any I would send you some. I know most flippers just throw them away after they break up the sets. I someone will send you some. JMO.

  108. Dustyroads says

Gold investors will be watching for the PPI ( Producer Price Index) released tomorrow if I’m not mistaken. We could see prices hit or break 1220.

  109. Ikaika says

    @ FM

I agree with you. The fact that the FDR set is still available gives us an idea of the collector demand. Maybe the mint wants to create interest by including the RP and lowering the mintage. Maybe its because of the JFK set. Regardless, the mintage should lower to 1/household to ensure a wider distribution.

    @ Louis

You mentioned in your article the JFK gold half dollar as an example of the mint lowering household limits. The coin is still available and contrary to what happened in real life, the JFK gold half dollar might outlive the Jackie Kennedy FS.

  110. GoldFishin says

@john- IF you have looked at and like your coins, this is what I would have done. Too late now….I would have ordered 5 more sets that probably won’t arrive until sometime later in the year. I would take the COA’s out of those 5 sets and then return those to the US MINT for a refund, which is basically what they are asking you to do now.

At this point, I would NOT send those coins back, you may never receive any replacements now that the offering is sold out. You can not rely on anything that a CSR tells you. I have been lied to now about crediting my account for shipping, for initial price discount, and that they would handle a lost package handled by FedEx. They will tell you anything to get you off the line. In my experience with the US Mint since the changeover, you can’t believe what they say. I think part of the problem is that there is a complete and total disconnect between the US Mint Customer Service Dept and the Fulfillment Center in Memphis. They have absolutely no way of communicating with one another. If you send your package back to Memphis, you will most likely never see those same coins again. JMHO
I would watch the sales of sets on Ebay over the next few weeks and try contacting a seller on Ebay of the sets who is not offering the OGP with the product and see if they have some COA’s they could sell you reasonably. The seller that is currently on Ebay is not offering OGP, many will not as it increases their shipping expense. If they asked for it back from the graders, they do have it….just a matter of IF they will sell it to you. Good Luck!

  111. Tinto says

Got my MOD sets today all 3 are nice especially the RP dimes! Packaging was okay with a sheet of packing paper on top and bottom. Dunno if I want to get all 4 RP C & C set to maintain my collection …. might just get one and make it a type set … that way I won’t be disappointed if I can’t get the Truman C&C set from the Mint..

  112. charles says

Thanks for the info jasomb…..very interesting. A final decision by the mint in a timely manner would be helpful!

  113. Dustyroads says

Larry~ It’s on the sub list.

Jasonb~ The Mint has stated that the RP dollars will be unique. The article you pasted above is from last year, and as far as we know the Mint may have changed their plans for the RP Silver Mint Sets. As a matter of fact, if you check out the product scheduled at the Mint website, you will see that the title for the set doesn’t even include “reverse proof”. This is just me thinking out loud, but I think that these RP dollars could have been originally planned for use in the RP sets…just me thinking out loud.

  114. Louis says

Dusty is correct at least based on what we know now. There are certainly those who are bearish on the c&c sets including a dealer quoted today in Numis News Express, but we will see. I personally like these sets and want at least one for the collection. Anything else is icing on the cake.

  115. Dustyroads says

The time line of the announcement of the RP silver set and RP dollars for the C & C sets is interesting enough to at least consider the possibility of them being related. As for whether they will be a good buy, even though the dollar is not silver, does not compute Dr. Smith!

  116. Dave SW FL says

    Louis,
Nicely written article. Thanks for being a voice of reason.

As for the RP set, I think the mint has determined that they can get more revenue by releasing individual RP coins rather than give them to you all at once. One coin per set is how we will get them. They got a good marketing team who has figured out how to maximize profit.
Now all they need is a good PR team, a new IT team, and a new shipper.
Oh, darn, I forgot…….it’s the goober mint running the show.
Do we have a Mint Director yet?
Case in point – the new return policy of refund & reorder when an item is sold out and COA is missing. The shipping & return label still gives the replacement option, but that is not really an option. You send them back and there is no guarantee you will get your sets back. You will get a refund. Period. Even if an item is not sold out , you still have to reorder. And if it’s on back order , you can wait months even though you just need a peice of paper. NOT LOGICAL!

  117. stephen m says

5 MOD’s sets received without COA’s. Don’t send those sets back. The mint should be ashamed of themselves for a lack of not better handling their mistake and this is the USA . Do the right thing Mr. mint. This makes me frustrated with the mint and it wasn’t even my order.

  118. Brad says

Heads-up guys! There’s only 68 left of the Harry S. & Bess Truman Coin & Spouse Medal Sets. If they go to eternal “currently unavailable” status like the 2014’s, you could miss out.

  119. Zaz says

@Brad: Good catch on the Truman Coin and medal set. Didnt think the Mint would short sell the set, but its really clear they would like the FS set to be over and done with. For an under the radar product that had an open sales window for 15 days is unprecedented. The ’13s and ’14s coin and medal sets go for mad money and they were on sale for months after issue. Not sure they’ll make more of the ’15s once the initial batch is gone. or they could be just saving resources for the Kennedy set in July.

Ahhh, as expected pennies are Zinc, not Al.
If the pennies were all Aluminum I could have melted them down in my garage and made
    airplane parts!!

    Zinc airplane parts anyone??

  122. Brad says

    Zaz,

Looks like the Truman set is “currently unavailable” now. I was checking on them every day, since I had not bought mine yet. I didn’t want to miss it, since I have the complete set from Washington onward. Fortunately I had bought my 2014 sets in one group just days before they vanished. I wouldn’t pay the crazy money those sets bring now! I can’t wrap my mind around that.

So, this morning I bought the Truman set and the Eisenhower also while I was at it. You can bet I’ll be buying the John and Jackie Kennedy set the first day. While there will undoubtedly be a lot more of those sets made, they will most certainly sell much faster too!

  123. fmtransmitter says

Maybe the person in shipping came In and spilled his drink on some COAs and just said f it they will keep them, ship them anyways. I.mean you never know.

  124. Zaz says

@Brad, looks like the initial distribution of the Truman C&M set is around 3,000, 2/3rds the number of the scarce existing 2014s. Can’t really imagine they’ll issue a ton of the First Spouse four medal sets either even though Jackie is included. Can’t really speculate how many of the Kennedy C&M sets they’ll make, that product could go on and off sale for a couple of months, whereas they’re unlikely to reissue the other ’15s.

  125. Larry says

If the mint really knew anything about making a profit, they would put the “S” mint quarters in the upcoming uncirculated set. Without the “S” mint quarters I am not at all interested, with them I might be.

  126. Mark says

Truman spouse medal sets …flying out the door on ebay ..sitting on 25 of them. And ordered 25 more this morning. …thanks for the heads up.

  127. Billy the kid says

If the mint is making silvers dimes, why not make the penny out of solid copper?

I would buy into the set if a copper was included.

    “Pocket change in Arizona”.

  128. jeff says

Mark sounds like you have an agenda like pump n dump sad . Are those flying off the shelf yours sad mark so sad

  129. grampa Dave says

2015 Dwight Eisenhower and Mamie sets are currently unavailable. Only on sale for three days. I missed the boat!!!! Looks like these will be very low mintages. Just bought one on the bay for $38.95 to keep my series complete. There is only one guy selling them and they are going fast. Bought the Truman set when I ordered my MOD sets. The mint is supposed to email me if they become available. I don’t think that will happen.

  130. John Q. Coinage says

THey are minting more Mamies…to order, they found a whole sheetload of Bess, the ’70’s afro hair deisgn….the mint is untrustable, just whem you think you know the #s they re-open the die presses…..
