Gold Mercury Dime Sales Adjustment and Other Updates

16xb_aBOTH 600

The U.S. Mint has adjusted its sales total for the 2016 Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coin downward after considering returns, cancellations, and further assessments of its inventory. Michael White of the Mint’s Office of Corporate Communications told Mint News Blog today that sales of the issue currently stand at 120,966 coins, 1,544 less than were reported on this week’s numismatic sales report. This means that as many as 4,034 gold Mercury Dimes may be made available for purchase from the Mint in the future.

It would not be unprecedented for the Mint to declare a high-mintage product “sold out” with a few thousand pieces to go in its mintage limit, but all 125,000 coins have already been struck, and Coin World notes that Tom Jurkowsky, Director of the Mint’s Office of Corporate Communications, hopes to sell as much of the remaining inventory as possible. “If we say that 125,000 is the mintage, this is what we want to sell,” he said. “It’s revenue, but we want to get the coins out to customers and ensure it is done fairly.”

In other news, a U.S. Mint notice posted to the Federal Register today states that the ongoing suspension of the Mint’s exchange program for bent and partial coins will be extended for another six months. The hiatus began on November 2, 2015 and was expected to conclude on May 2 of this year. It was instituted to give the Mint time to develop new security measures and assess the program’s vulnerability to fraud.

The statement says that “the United States Mint has made significant progress in assessing the current state of the program, evaluating risks, and identifying potential remedial measures,” but that “due to recent litigation involving the exchange program and more time needed to complete our work, the United States Mint is extending the suspension of its redemption of bent and partial coins…”

The program allows owners of bent, broken, or heavily corroded coins to submit their damaged currency to the Mint for reimbursement. The U.S. Treasury receives over 30,000 mutilated currency claims per year, redeeming more than $30 million annually. As noted previously, the program has been found to be susceptible to fraud; studies have concluded that coins with incorrect metal compositions have gone through the program and that the Mint has redeemed more half dollars than were ever produced to begin with.

Finally, as noted on Coin Update, the Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Act (H.R. 2722) passed the United States Senate on April 19 and is now awaiting President Obama’s signature to become law.

If passed, the 2018 Breast Cancer Awareness commemorative coin program will include the issue of a “pink gold” $5 coin, which the bill states must be composed of “at least 75% gold.” This percentage is lower than the gold content usually found in $5 commemoratives because the composition of pink gold includes a greater percentage of copper and silver.

The legislation mandates the release of up to 50,000 $5 gold coins, 400,000 silver dollars, and 750,000 clad half dollars, each issued in both Proof and Uncirculated versions. Surcharges in the amounts of $35 per gold coin, $10 per silver dollar, and $5 per half dollar will be added to support the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.

For the remaining Mercs, I’d go with a HHL of 2. They’ll be scooped up almost immediately, so there won’t be a need to bump up the limit later on. I’m hoping for a limit of two on the Centennial quarter and half. Can always adjust higher if need be.

Regarding the HHL on the Merc, the April 14 press release said, “The 2016 Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coin has a mintage limit of 125,000 coins and an initial household order limit of 10. The Mint will continue to monitor sales and adjust the household order limit as appropriate.” The USM is not nimble enough to adjust downward in the midst of a busying frenzy, so better to start with a low limit and adjust upward.

KCSO, Yes, gold is looking awesome today. In fact, I broke down and ordered the Cumberland Gap even though I had decided that I didn’t want it.
Also, while watching gold and oil move up, I get the added joy of getting to see grain move up too. Grain as a commodity that follows oil and gold has been held down. This is encouraging.
BTW, I still don’t own a gold Buff. If I thought they would all be gone at this mintage, I just might spring for it, but I’m holding out for an anniversary surprise, as you know.

And, I must take back the negativity towards the Mercury dime I’ve been expressing lately. I took them out to get a good look at them and my impression is very positive to say the least. I do like them and are looking forward to the rest.

Here’s a wicked idea for you all to consider: how about starting next year all of the AGE are represented by their centennial counterparts in 2017??? Leaving the one ounce with the Saint as it should be, (maybe using the original eagle reverse as substitute), the MD 1/10th, SLQ 1/4, and WLH 1/2. They could even leave the original denominations intact, and change 24K to 22K for a .9167 planchet? That way the 2016s are the 1916s going forward and they’d sure sell a lot more 1/4s & 1/2s. I was surprised and wrong about the smaller diameter, I was judging by the full length Saint which is teeny-tiny on the 16mm coin, a portrait head is a perfect fit for the 1/10th size. Having bullion with these designs will make the 2016s the keys and prevent them from crashing. They could also make proofs which some people wanted particularly the SLQ. Now I’m saving my money for the 2016-W 1oz burnished Saint to go with the other three coins. Hell, the box is HUGE, someone on street would probably ask, “what you got in there, gold nuggets?” Haha. I want the book that that four coin AGE proof set comes in, if I can snag the 1oz Saint.

  22. says

Yes it’ the weekend and post usually drop about 70%.

    To me
, the big news is gold and silver, oil thd the US Dollar index

GF, i too have watchted the dollar index closely for several years…it went from 80 to 90 and then stayed at 90 a good while…then it broke up too 100, but has finally coming back down. It is now back down to 93.01…the lowest it’s been in awhile…i don’ know where the next support level is..do you.

But for whatever reasons gold and silver or on a tear. While i always have my own estimates in mind, i generally keep them to myself…but i really had to bite my tonque when for quite a while, posters keep saying…yes, i see silver at 8-9 $ and gold will be $700-$800 soon. What reasons did you have for that…except when pm’ s are going down or up, people jump on board like sheep. When silver was $45/oz, some very respected guys on this blog saw silver reaching $75/oz by 12-31-11…and gold was on it’t wat to $2-3000.
But even the so called experts really no more than you or i.
So to me, i look at our 19 trillion $ debt…and yet the dollar is still the best of the worst.

But none of us or any “experts” can predict the future…if they could, they would so so rich that they didn’t need to sell their great newsletters telling you to pay them for their “secrets” to make money

We all have the responsibility to do our own research and decide what we think is best.

But anyway ,how about gold and silver thus far this year. Using Kitco 12/31/15 of gold at $1062.25…and now at $1293.50, gold is up ytd 21.7%.
    Silver is even better…$13.82 on 12/31/15 and now $17.92…up 29.7 %.

All i know is i can’t predict the future for pm’s or the stock market…I’m just along for the ride and i know however good of bad decisions i make, i will always be saying “well, in hindsight”…..

    Have a great weekend guys!

    Re the “v”
I remember back in high school a teacher said that the letter “u” did not exist in the roman alphabet, and further that stone carvers fashioning labels to buildings often carved the letter “v” instead of “u” as it was easier to cut, and as a means to honor the classical look of many stone buildings (often used as govt buildings such as Covrt Hovses).
I imagine McNeil in presenting a theme of Liberty as a goddess in a classic Greek way included “stone” carving in the gates through which Liberty passes

  24. GoldFishin says

@Steve- the long term support level from May of 2015 on the dollar index of 93.18 was broken today. The next price level of support is at 89.84, which also coincidentally is near the 50% Fibonacci retracement level from the 2014 lows, which coupled together could prove quite testy to break. For now we are still basically at long term support, so we could bounce around here for a while longer, or we could move down to test the 90 area.
Either, way the weaker dollar is fuel for PM’s, energy, and other commodities. It should also be helpful to some struggling multinationals that depend on a lot of exports for a significant portion of their earnings. Although all of this paper trading is fun to talk about and even more fun to make money at….there is no substantial real GDP growth practically anywhere in the world, so any of these markets can turn on a dime fueled by the latest algorithmic software upgrade. IF there was real world economic growth based on fundamentals, and not on the latest stimulus package, it would be much easier to take longer term trades.
I fear the FED has missed a prime opportunity to continue to normalize rates by NOT raising another 1/4 pt. while the stock market is near all time highs. I think the word was put out by D.C. that there will be no more rate hikes in this election cycle…or else.
Once gold broke out $1280(overhead resistance) my target was/is $1350. I posted about it several weeks back. Of course, there is no telling what it will do, but the momentum is up for now.
The dollar could very well hold in this lower range and trend back higher, but the markets seem to be forecasting no fed tightening for the foreseeable future, IF the dollar were to break below 90 the market might even begin to forecast FED loosening or some other type of stimulus. As always, TWT…

The Mint employees manning their booth at the Central States Show today were so pleased that they only had to display and did not have to sell the gold Merc and gold SLQ. They admitted their pre-show briefing from management purposely omitted plans for future sales of the remainder of the coins. (so they could honestly say they didn’t know)

Had conversations with several dealers that were displaying stacks of the gold Mercs. One freely admitted that he had 900 of them. Staff were busily un-boxing them and filling gallon size zip-locks for delivery to the TPG booths on site. Prices varied from $275 to $285 for raw coins, to $350 for 70 grade coins.

By the way, the SLQ’s are real and they’re spectacular!

  28. says

@GoldFishin….thanks, i always appreciate your knowledge and preception of varios markets. I share your thoughts of low GDP growth, while our debt continues to go up and up.
Stocks are hard to figure, at least to me…I am not surprized by Apples current fall, but I never would of guessed Facebook would have the 6th largest market cap in the S & P 500. Amazon continues to amaze me and Netflix is hard to guess where it may go. Then companies like Tesla can rise or fall rapidly.

I used to invest and tripled my money in individual stocks before the internet crash in 2001 i think. Companies like Dell split three times a year…Yahoo, twice a year. In Atlanta, a ISP called Mindspring also had an amazing run. But staples such as Intel, Microsoft, EMC, HD, Corning, JDSU, PMCS, Yahoo, GAP,…one of my none tech stocks, well HD too, were a lot of fun to trade.

But, i am much more conservative now….more like index funds. But physical gold and silver will always be an asset i will love….nothing like holdind a 2008 Double Prosperity set in your hands as well as pre-1933 gold, ,classic silver, etc.

  35. CasualCollector says

If they have 4K+ of these in stock(not returns), that seems to be enough to offer a product. So I would vote for a 3-Coin Set with a Product Limit of whatever rounded number they have of the Dime left in inventory (with HH Limit of 1 or 2).

I don’t know why they didn’t implement a “Waiting List” like they did with the BHOF Coins. I think they allowed people to place orders with the understanding that they were being put on a “Waiting List” in the event the coins were available. So basically, once orders reach the Mintage Limit, you keep taking orders for “x” amount with the understanding that you are ordering on a first-come-first-served “Waiting List” and that there is no guaranty your order will be filled.

  36. Felson says

The interesting part of the mutilate coin story is the premise used for the discovery of the coins. They were supposedly found in junk cars overseas and returned to the mint. It was an organized crime scheme.

  37. Hidalgo says

I have been reading recent comments from bloggers. Here are a few of my thoughts

    * It took about 10 – 15 minutes for my 2016 Mercury Dime Centennial gold coin order to go through. I ordered one coin for my personal collection. Considering the coin has 1/10 oz. of gold, the premium (about $80) was quite high.

    * I still plan to buy a PCGS First Strike edition of all three centennial gold coins. However, I am going to wait until the demand dies down. A maximum limit of 125,000 coins for sale is a huge amount – that’s more to be sold than the 1 ounce American Gold Eagles, 1 ounce American Gold Buffaloes, 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame gold coins (remember the frenzy then?), etc. made during one or the respective year.

    * The 2016 Gold Centennial Coin Standing Liberty and Walking Liberty coins are gotta haves. Also, the US Mint should have learned its lesson from the 10 per customer sales of the 2015 Truman Coin and Chronicles sets. The US Mint should have initially sold a small number, e.g., two per customer, of its 2016 Mercury dime. In the future, if demand is less than anticipated, it can increase buying limits. It has used this sales technique in the past.

    * There will be at least one more gold offering this year – the 2016 Nancy Reagan First Spouse gold coin. It will be interesting to see what demand will be like for this anticipated coin.

cag, I think the Mint may have felt they were pushing the envelope with 125,000 dimes.
But now they may be thinking they can sell more than they expected. I believe your mintage projection is very close, possibly 5, 10, or 15,000 low. Your HH limit doesn’t look to me like one the Mint would use though, I would think the Mint would move to 5 or 2. I expect 5.

Bill Gibbs’s article in Coin World pretty much indicates he is not a MNBer! Bill, if you are looking for great ideas, READ THE BLOG!!! Many excellent ideas for assuring collectors get their desired tribute gold coin at mint prices.

Being shamelessly a braggart, would it not be pretty simple to open the subscription window for a single coin per household a month (or more) before general sales begin? Advance payment required and no return permitted with this program. Gold goes up – you win. Gold goes down – you win! ( You got the coin you wanted😊). Prepackage them and ship on first day of general sales in the morning before general ordering begins – A TRUE EARLY RELEASE!
Set mintage level at subscription # + whatever and announce in advance.

What a great way to hype the coin. If Big Boyz dealers want to get 3,000 friends & family on subscription, have at it. It increases the mint’s database of customers. More people to market to🤑

    Come on mint…….get creative…….PLEASE

We ought to all try to guess how long it will be before our Mint starts redoing all the big rarities from its long history. Wanna make us holler? Reissue the 1804 Dollar. Wanna put us all in a Pickle? Redo that 3 legged Buffalo Nickel.

And if it just wants to continue on with the same tired and uninspired stuff, go ahead and give us a Big Pink Gold Dome- Shaped Breast Coin. Whoopie.

Zaz – you said it better than I did.

Goat – good comment – I hope we are still growing – I think so (mostly).

KSCO – of course your opinion matters here – you’re one of the stalwarts. Need to correct something you said – you must have mis-interpreted one of my posts. I have always been a civilian, shipmate. No worries on the labels, no particular label applies and it’s all relative.

  64. Tyler says

Received the dime a few days ago. I like it more than I expected. It’s for my own personal collection but I checked eBay out of curiosity and see they are roughly going for $270ish. It’s going to cost what, 10% in selling fees I believe, then PayPal takes their cut. Then the cost of shipping say …5 bucks. That leaves a..$20-30 profit. Not very appealing. Holding is an easy choice.

  65. Jeff says

Selling for peanuts is a necessity when it comes to dealers they will cut their losses for the next big gig. we already know a majority of the dimes are in weak hands. I think the next big gig is the quarter they will need additional funds FIRE SALE A COMING.. Weekend Flipper sorry for your luck..

  66. Terry says

The HSN guy should be arrested for deceptive practice for all his lies. This time it’s the “2016 gold dime” has a lower mintage than the 1916 D dime which is worth $40,000 to $50,000. This clown should be taken off air! I feel very sorry for the poor people who trust and believe him. Oh but forgot he has his ” nationally advertised catalog” to back him up.

  67. Hidalgo says

@Tyler – if you plan to flip a coin on eBay, you should plan to sell the coin at least approximately 13% what you paid for it (10% eBay fees and approximately 3% for PayPal fees). Plus, if you offer free packaging, shipping, and insurance (many of the big sellers do), that will be an additional cost. Finally, if you work full time (40 hours + per week) like I do, then, you need to figure out how much traveling and carrying out your efforts at the US Post Office will cost you.

Everyone’s personal experiences and needs will differ, so do what YOU believe is best for you. Not what others think is best for you. You’ll be a lot happier at the end.

  77. Phil says

@Phil , we are talking about the Same mint that Two weeks before pricing of the Winged Liberty dime said they were using the current Gold pricing grid. We are talking about the Same mint that said the high relief Liberty would Not be a series. We are talking about the Same mint that said there would be a 2015 high relief Liberty Silver medal.

For Me those items are much more Aggresious than a Mintage range of 145,000-225,000 given out in an interview 6 months ago.

  81. KCSO says

In the original mint survey last year, the mint asked about a Mintage of 70,000 for the WHL,

They went with a 125,000 mintage, presumably from survey results indicating higher demand.

Mint had 110,000 of 125,000 onsite Memphis on Game Day when they were originally thinking initially 70,000.

122,500 Sold Out in 41 minutes, maybe less than that

I suspect the mint was caught off guard and reevaluating the release of the SLQ & WLH.

All past assumptions and game plans must be out the window now…

They’re probably scratching their head as much as we are for this next release…

And from ebay sells, there still appears to be demand for the WHL.., price has dropped some though we’re really only two-weeks into this.., a lot can still change before demand and supply stabilizes, and we have two more releases to go

Oh, and for reference, the original survey asked about a mintsge of 25,000 for the WLH which is the real money maker for the mint, well 25,000 only isn’t going to happen

  82. Dave SW FL says

My suspicion on the remaining tribute mintages is that the mint will survey their Big Boyz for their intentions and then add 1-2 coins per order from their Merc Trib # of orders to arrive at a guesstimate of how many to do in the initial strike .

As these coins are not legislated in mintage, is there anything that would prevent additional mintage of the tributes later in the year to offer tribute sets?

  83. Eddie says

    @ cagcrisp
Thank you for answering my questions I think I only have one more .
Are these 2 medals going to be
    9999 or .900?

  84. Larry says

@ earthling says – the mint has already made one of the great rarities, the 2009 UHR. I am glad they did, it is my favorite of all the coins I have. There is little chance I will ever even see one of the originals, let alone own one.
My gold dime came yesterday, as far as I can see with a magnifier it is perfect. No, it isn’t a 2009 UHR, but it is a nice coin and I am glad to add it to my collection.
I don’t mind the HSN guy doing what he does, I just wish he would get his facts straight. No the gold dime didn’t sell out in 20 minutes, as I placed my order at 12:39. No it is not fair to say it is the lowest mintage WLH dime, as it is not fair to compare it to the original circulating dimes. Maybe more fair to compare with the proof WLH dimes, and it isn’t even close to the low mintages of those coins. And especially $499.00 is highway robbery for this coin, even in the infamous ANACS FDOI.

My gold Mercury dime (semi-real coin) is very nice, but too small for a “wow” factor. I’ll keep mine. Rising gold prices will emotionally keep the dime from dropping in value, but overall not as exciting as it was billed to be. Look forward to the larger coins coming up.

  87. says

Eddie, as we understand it to-date, the same planchet used in the ASE will be used for the Silver High Relief Medals.

Though one must ask just how HR will they be? Probably more like the JFK if I were to guess.

There’s also been some speculation that we will get a uncirculated strike, and a proof finish. If so, perhaps the W will be proof.

Personally, I’d like to see an S proof and a W Enhanced, though that’s wishful thinking.

  94. fmtransmitter says

Again bad marketing and timing on the Mint’s part to release the silver HR medals but I assume it is in response to surveys of people wishing to own one who cannot afford the gold AND this quote:

The silver medals are an extension of a silver arts medal program championed by members of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee.

When did the CAC start issuing extensions? Are they running the show? Thoughts? I love the design and see adding this to the collection for simple beautify of the eagle. Not sure the price point but should be pretty close to spot as it is not a coin. Is there is a mintage limit? Why is the Mint so vague about the most sought after products on their release dates when they know people need to save their “pennies”?

  95. fmtransmitter says

HSN was “mad” that his $32,000 MS69 1880 S Morgan came in a plastic baggy when it should have came in a red oak presentation box with a 30 day money back guarantee…

I do find it interesting that the US Mint is dividing the duty up of the HR medals. Maybe an inside war with each other to see who can produce the most 70’s? A little competition never hurt at work..

  97. GoldFishin says

I think the Mint already has produced what they will produce of the SLQ, I don’t think they will change plans at this late date based on a sell out of the Merq with a HHL that was too high. They should just reduce the HHL’s. It’s all about the packaging…..I am HOPING for…

    SLQ – 75,000/4

HHL of 4 allows a customer to purchase $1 face. Good a guess as any…

  98. fmtransmitter says

I think the silver medals are to be the new ASE bullion after this year…Just my 2 cents…

  99. fmtransmitter says

Dont think these dealers will be willing to load up on the SLQ. Looks like Silvertownes sales of the WHL are not flying out the door. They still have 174 NGC SP70 ER available. Very few have sold since they first put them up for sale.

I think I’m like the regulars here in the fact that I truly love coin collectiing. However to @Jeffs point…if a somewhat valuable coin doubles in value and I’m not in love with it then selling becomes a lot more enticing ( hence, more coins I love can now be bought).

Btw..to save the hassel of shipping, I do a good amount right at work on my USPS account. However if ANYONE knows a way around this let me know, but there is for some stupid reason no way to ship a cheaper way than the $5 flat rate. For some reason they will not allow you to ship online, for example, a small padded envelope that costs roughly $2-3 dollars at a USPS store. Very annoying

With the Gold Dime going for around $260 on the bay, minus fees and shipping you would net around $220 for a tidy profit of $10! Things look a little better if you bought 10 (because of shipping) you would make around $200.

If you are going to flip the Gold Quarter, better be fast about it, or line up a presale with a big boy.

So depending on how the dime is doing between now and when the quarter goes on sale, the big players will probably decide how many they really want.

Cagcrisp is about the only one on this blog that sounds like he would buy a lot and not flip them.

@ goldfishin, you are right, that is what I meant. In the case of this dime, how can any of these ridiculous labels like early release, or first day of issue, mean anything?

  131. Roxie says

After more time to think about it I think the limit will be 4. I’ll live with my original guess but logically qty 4 equals an ounce and that makes more sense to me.

  132. Hidalgo says

I knew that the US Mint would eventually release a coin with color. By doing so, it will follow the lead of other worlds mints, including Australia and Canada. And other doors for innovation will be open as new technologies are introduced.

United States coinage soon to feature color

Humm then what about GOLD, GOLDEN, SILVER and COPPER coins…. are these not colors ?

Must be that new Common Core thingy.

NC Stacker will be first in line for the brand new 10 K gold coin in 2020.

  135. Peter says

GoldFishin, I hope you are closer than I am. Given demand of the 1/10 oz. and gold’s increase, it may fall somewhere in the middle of those two numbers, which is a bite for sure and justification for a lower household limit.

  136. Joe#2 says

They should do a mintage of only (1) per household anyway to start to give the real collectors a chance to obtain one, And then after 1 day when most have had there chance raise it to (4) coins. It probably won’t happen that way, But it’s worth a shot to put it out there anyway…lol.

I just picked the book AMERICAN GOLD AND SILVER BY DENNIS TUCKER at the library
so far a very good read
on page seven you find out there is a variety of gold colors
YELLOW GOLD- GOLD 91% SILVER 5% COPPER 2% ZINC 1.33%
    RED GOLD
    ROSE GOLD
    >PINK GOLD< gold 75% copper 20% silver 5%
    WHITE GOLD
    GRAY GOLD 17% IRON
    SOFT GREEN GOLD
    LIGHT GREEN GOLD
    GREEN GOLD
DEEP GREEN GOLD GOLD 75% SILVER 15% COPPER 6% CADMIUM4%
    BLUE GOLD
    AND
PURPLE GOLD( MY FAVORITE COLOR GOLD) 80% ALUMINUM 20%
Why do we need to add fake colors? All we need to do is change alloy composition.
Wow you think the mint would ever think of that
pure gold is 24K yellow gold is 22K the others vary but most all are 18K

Most collectors and dealers DON”T like “color coins”. I for one don’t like them.

Got my Gold Mercury Dime today. Was on the backorder list. Ordered at 12:41 CST. Looks nice.
Can anyone articulate the difference between a 70 and a 69 rated gold Mercury? Was at a coin show this weekend and put a 69 next to a 70 with a loupe and could not tell the difference. Is there something specific or do I need to use shaman’s feathers and crystals pointed toward the heavens? Also, this is my first 24K coin and it says “keep in a cool, dark place.” My friend suggested my ex-wife’s heart but I’m looking for more practical advice.

I received the following from the US Mint today re: my Mercury Dime order:

    Dear United States Mint Customer:

Thank you for your recent purchase of the 2016 Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coin. Once your order ships, you will receive a confirmation email with a tracking number included for tracking its status and delivery. Please be advised that because of the value of your order, an adult at least 21 years of age will be required to sign for the package upon delivery.

If you have any questions, please contact us at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468), and one of our customer service representatives will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for your continued support of the United States Mint.

I’ve never received an e-mail from the Mint like this before and my Order History still shows the item as BACKORDERED to be shipped via FedEx Smartpost. Interesting.

It looks like it is a lot cheaper To buy a Ngc 70 dime without ogp than with it. Looks like there is a $30 difference which make no sense to me at all.

  145. Natatack says

Got mine yesterday , beautiful coin , mine does not have the cartwheel effect. Too bad about not having split bands, only bottom has some splitting. Now to hear from any folks that may have seen a proof like yet.

  146. jayjaspersgarage on ebay says

I just signed for the delivery from UPS on my order of 4 Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coins and a clunker NPS Clad Proof Half Dollar. It is ironic how they design a fabulous wood box for the coin and protect it in another box with a cool hinged front door and then a “Hot Pocket” type outer sleeve yet just toss them in a shipping box with no protection around or under the boxes whatsoever. The only bubble pack was on top of all five coin boxes in the order. Each outer sleeve did its job and shows minor damage for it. The white inner foam sheet was folded over in some cases or tucked into or around the wood box a little differently. Hand packed?

The shipping box is crushed in one corner resulting in the accordion effect for a little over four inches. No harm done but quite dramatic.

The coins are very nice with one having a slight rotation that I will look into later. Will probably list one on The Bay real soon and send two off to a TPG.

That’s it for now. Back to listing rare Bolivian silver coins from the mid to late 1800s at the moment. Thanks for looking!

Well just traded 5 Merc gold coins and some cash for 2015w American Liberty HR. Hope that was wise.

  148. Natatack says

Any guesstimates on what the SLQ will run? I was going by what the dime sold for per gram and came up with $512.53 of course that was before the move in gold prices but it should give a ballpark figure to save up on. I am guessing roughly $1025 for the WLH gold.
