Completing the presentation of the design candidate images recently released by the United States Mint are the potential designs for two upcoming Congressional Gold Medals.
Under Public Law 113-116, the Congressional Gold Medal is authorized to be awarded collectively to the Monuments Men in recognition of their heroic role in the preservation, protection, and restitution of monuments, works of art, and artifacts of cultural importance during and following World War II.
The United States Mint has prepared twelve different obverse and eight different reverse design candidates for the medal. The obverse design candidates take a number of different approaches including depictions of empty frames to represent looted art, images of the Monuments Men cataloging or recovering the stolen works, several symbolic representations, and lastly images of the actual works recovered. The reverse design candidates feature symbolic elements and the use of text indicating the names of the creators of some of the works of art rescued and a quote from Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Design candidates were also released for an upcoming Congressional Gold Medal to be awarded to the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Code Talkers. The medal was authorized under Public Law 110-420 Code Talkers Recognition Act of 2008. The Act authorized the award of the Congressional Gold Medal to tribes with members who served as Code Talkers during a foreign conflict in which the United States was involved. A total of 33 different tribes were identified by the Department of Defense. In November 2013, 25 of the 33 medals were awarded at a ceremony with the final 8 medals to be awarded at a later date.
For the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Medal, there were two obverse and two reverse design candidates prepared by the United States Mint. The obverse candidates depict a World War II Code Talker and Sicangu Lakota warrior in profile. The reverse design candidates depict variations of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe seal.
