The United States Mint has just released their coin production figures for the month of February 2010. The latest update includes production of the first 2010 Roosevelt Dimes and the final mintage for the 2010 Millard Fillmore Dollar.

During February 2010, the US Mint produced a total of 194.4 million coins. This compares to 218.41 million coins produced in the prior month. Coin production had averaged 295 million coins per month across all of 2009.

Production at the Philadelphia Mint was confined to cents, dimes, and Native American Dollars. The Denver Mint only produced cents. The table below displays the breakdown of production, and the year to date totals.

The final numbers for Millard Fillmore are 36.96 million Philadelphia Mint coins and 37.52 million Denver Mint coins, for a combined total of 74.48 million.

This represents a new low for overall circulation mintage of a Presidential Dollar. Previously, the Zachary Taylor Dollar held the circulation mintage low at 78.26 million. The 2009-D Zachary Taylor Dollar still holds the mintage low for an individual circulation issue at 36.68 million.

The US Mint produced the first 2010 Roosevelt Dimes during February. The last time the US Mint had produced dimes in April 2009. A few weeks ago, CoinWorld had reported that the Federal Reserve ordered 224 million dimes from the Mint. Last year, total production of 2009 Roosevelt Dimes was a combined 146 million.

There have still not been any 2010 Jefferson Nickels produced. The same CoinWorld story mentioned that the Federal Reserve did not order any nickels.

Production of 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters has also not commenced and the US Mint is yet to reveal the final designs for the coins. The Mint had previously indicated that the designs would be unveiled at a special ceremony held in February, but the month has already come and gone.

Other than in the sets I ordered from the Mint, I don't think I've seen a 2009 nickel, dime or penny in circulation.

It seems like there are more 2009P dime rolls around too and EBay prices have recently begun to slide fairly steeply, and they're not all coming from Puerto Rico. This may also partially explain why the Fed ordered 2010 dimes in quantity. What isn't explained is why they ordering 2010 dimes when no one has yet to see a regular circulation 2009D. Maybe now we will as EBay is seemingly full of 2009P rolls for the time being.

I see an occasional 2009-P dime (an average of 1 every 2 weeks). No 2009 nickels and very few 2009 pennies. I'm up in the Boston area

In Southern Illinois, I've seen several 2009 pennies in circulation (all four designs, both P and D), but not a single 2009 nickel or dime of either P or D.

Poster 5:31 Where are you at in Southern Illinois? Just wondering, I am from Marion

That's cool. I work in Marion, but I live further north in Franklin County. I found one of the "Formative Years" P Lincoln Cents on the floor of the Court Street McDonalds on lunch hour just the other day. I wasn't expecting that. I also received a 2010 P penny at Wendy's on Carbon Street last week.

The Bank of Herrin has always been helpful in getting me coins (I was able to get all four pennies in full box quantities and many rolls of all six Territories quarters from them), but they too came up completely empty on nickels and dimes.

Do you work in Marion too?

It took a while, but I have seen all the 2009 pennies in circulation. But I have yet to see a 2009 nickel or dime in circulation. Though, I was able to eventually get bank rolls of the nickels and dimes, P mint.

I have yet to see ANY D-minted nickels and dimes ANYWHERE. Someone was selling NGC-slabbed D-minted nickels a while back which threw me for a loop. But since then, nothing. nothing.

    Here in the Minneapolis, MN area I've found 7 LP1, 1 LP2, 11 LP3 and 2 LP 4 pennies in circulation.

I haven't seen a single 2009 Dime or Nickel. They must be using rolls of them as door stops at the mint.

Fast food and convenience stores are your best bet to find these in circulation since they go through larger quantities of cash a day.

I live in NJ and have not seen one 2009 cent, nickel, or dime. Such a bummer considering its only a hop skip and a jump to Philly! My folks live in OR and they keep a lookout for me. Aside from 09quarters they have come up empty handed. I am interested to see what the future will bring.

Found all 8 2090 Lincoln Cents; not one 09 dime or nickel yet. I get boxes of all three coins at the bank every couple weeks to go thru while watching TV (college bball games – go UConn Huskies!) I've probably been thru 8-10 boxes of cents in the past 4-5 months. I've been thru fewer nickel and dime rolls, and a few quarter rolls. I found a 09 American Samoa qrtr today.

Haven't seen any Series 2009 currency in circulation yet, either… isn't this unusual for over fourteen months into a new administration?
